Abdulrahman Yahya Al-Qahtani

  • Abdulrahman Al-Qahtani is a health promotion and communication advisor at the Deputy Ministry of Communication, Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia.
  • He holds a master's and diploma degree in the field of health promotion from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine at the University of London, UK. Prior to that, he graduated from the College of Dentistry, King Saud University in 1995.
  • With a career spanning more than 25 years, his experience includes work in the fields of health promotion, health communication, school health, consulting, community empowerment, and health journalism. In addition, he has long experience in advocacy building, strategic planning, social marketing as well as capacity building.
  • His previous works have embraced diversity and involved challenging positions, such as being the Director of the Health Communication Department at MOH, from 2011 to 2015, in which he oversaw the Health Communication departments in the Directorates of Health Affairs in 14 regions around the kingdom. Besides, he served as the General Secretary of the Consumer Protection Association (CPA) from the end of 2015 to 2018. Then he worked as an advisor to the National Committee for Narcotic Control.
  • Additionally, He served as a collaborating lecturer for the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Media at the College of Media and Communication at Al-Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University.
  • From 2004 to 2009, he was the Director of Preventive Affairs, Directorate General of School Health (DGSH), Ministry of Education (MOE), KSA. During the period from 2002 to 2010, he was a part-time advisor to the World Health Organization (EMRO) and UNESCO.
  • Abdulrahman was tasked with efficiently planning and managing national health promotion and communication programs and campaigns throughout his career. He also took part in developing several national strategic plans and national health promotion regulations.
  • He has directed and participated in training more than 10.000 trainees in the areas of health promotion, health education and communication, program planning, school health, and media and information literacy (MIL).
  • He participated in publishing more than 40 publications, including training guidelines and manuals, and educational materials in the above-mentioned fields.
  • He has extensive community work in several community societies. He was a board member of the Waey Association for Community Health, the Charitable Society for Smoking Prevention (NAQA), and recently he is a board member of the Health Communication Association.
  • Aside from that, he has been an opinion columnist for over 16 years in local newspapers in the fields of health promotion, consumer protection, and public opinion issues.
