Kris Spaepen, RN, CCRN, MSc, EMDM, PhD
Lecturer in nursing sciences at Karel de Grote University College, Faculty member of the European Master in Disaster Medicine (EMDM, www.dismedmaster.com), and postdoctoral researcher in disaster medicine (ReGEDiM Brussels).
He graduated with a bachelor’s in nursing at the Hogeschool Antwerpen (Belgium) in 2002 and obtained his advanced bachelor’s degree in critical care nursing in 2003.
While working as a registered accident and emergency nurse, he took postgraduate courses in disaster management at the Universiteit Antwerpen (2006) and in disaster medicine at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2007).
After graduating with a Master of Science in Healthcare Management and Policy at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2010), he obtained an Advanced master’s degree in Disaster Medicine at the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale 'Amedeo Avogadro' (Italy) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium) in 2015.
He obtained his Ph.D. after research on the development and validation of a risk analysis tool for mass gatherings under Prof. Dr. Hubloue.
He teaches nursing students at Karel de Grote University College in Antwerp and is a visiting lecturer in multiple graduate and postgraduate courses.
He is still active as an accident and emergency nurse within the fire and rescue services of Rivierenland, Willebroek (Belgium).
